The Chasers War on Everything resumes
5 09 2007My favorite Australian television show is finally back from summer break, with a fantastic new episode. The episode can be downloaded from their website and is available in either wmv or mp4.
From an earlier episode, The World According to Fox News:
In addition to being a great comedy show, I’ve learned a lot about Australia’s political system from watching it. It’s a good thing I’ve got a pause button and Wikipedia, otherwise I wouldn’t know what the heck they were talking about most of the time.
Yeah that’s one of the reasons why this show isn’t broadcast internationally…Australian politics is not easy to understand and ALOT of the jokes are very related to current Australian events/people.
But its good to see someone actually willing to spend 2 minutes to learn that their Australian material is funny and relevant then just shrug it off as a dud joke.
I agree that Australian politics is pretty confusing, but I think that enough of their material is universal that it deserves a broader audience. I can’t get Today Tonight or Current Affairs here, but there are plenty of other terrible shows like it to pick from.
The ABC deserves praise for making the show available to non-Australians, especially those like me who are nerdy enough to puzzle out just who the hell Kevin Rudd is.
